PURPOSE
The streak tube is an inverter image intensifier with electrostatic focusing capable of resolving high-speed events within X-ray spectral range.
The tube is equipped with CsJ no window/photocathode. It is also provided with sealing flange for attaching the tube to vacuum chambers.
The streak tube is used to investigate the temporal variation of a single-shot or low-repetition-rate one-dimensional signal. It should be operated within stationary systems.
CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The main components of the streak tube are:
- an entrance slit aperture
- a semitransparent CsJ-photocathode
- an accelerating grid electrode
- the electron optics (focusing electrode and anode)
- a pair of shutter plates
- a pair of deflection plates
- a phosphor screen
These components are assembled within the single metal/ceramic/glass envelope. The sealing flange is connected with the envelope by means of the bellow. The CsJ-photocathode is evaporated onto the nitrocellulose film and covers the entrance slit aperture. The output window is a fibro-optic substrate for the phosphor screen. The shutter and deflection plates are furnished with pin-connectors.
An image of the X-ray phenomenon to be analyzed is focused onto the photocathode, which in response to the incident photons emits the photoelectrons. Located very close to the photocathode, accelerating electrode produces an extremely high electric field, required for short temporal resolution. This field reduces the spread of photoelectron transit-times. The electron optics focus the emitted photoelectrons on the screen. The deflection plates sweep photoelectron image over the screen, creating a linear time base perpendicular to the spatial axis. The phosphor screen converts the photoelectron pattern into a visible image to be coupled to a read-out device

PRE-OPERATION
Unpack the streak tube. Be sure that the tube has no mechanical damage (cracks or free species within the bulb).
Wipe it with nap-free fabrics damped with water-free alcohol.
Put the streak tube into the protective socle. Connect the power supplies with the electrodes. Remove the blank flange and attach the tube to vacuum chamber. Evacuate the vacuum chamber to a maximum 2.54 10-4 Pa.
STORAGE
The tube must be hermetically sealed and evacuated to a maximum 1 Pa. It must be packed into the package case. There must be no aggressive impurities in the air.
A long storage conditions
- temperature, K: 283 – 308
- humidity, %: ≤ 80 (298 K)
TRANSPORTATION
The tube should be transported in a package, which is stiffly fixed according to all caution signs.
The tube can be transported with no limitations on the transportation mode and distance.
WARRANTY
The quality streak tube is guaranteed under condition of proper usage, storage and transportation of the tube for as long as one year since delivery date.
