CCD readout unit

of digital image recording system

Documentation

APPLICATION AND COMPOSITION

A CCD readout unit butt-joined with a user's personal computer (PC) forms a digital image recording system.

The system is intended for record and digital processing of continuous and pulse images from an image converter cameras' (ICC) output as well as of pulse images that appear at arbitrary time moments.

In principle, the system can be used for operation with a wide range of optical images that are applied to its entrance with the help of lens optics.

The system contains:

  • CCD TV camera with an objective lens (the camera is power-supplied from the computer).
  • Standard IBM-compatible PC (to be acquired by a user) with a free PCI slot.
  • Video controller VS-2001 (to be mounted on a PC PCI bus).
  • Connecting cables.
  • Software.

RU-04 basic software allows:

  1. to reproduce on the display the full recorded image or any part of it in the scale selected by the operator;
  2. to store the recorded image on PC hard and removable disks;
  3. to accumulate images on CCD matrix (in a waiting mode) and in PC;
  4. to combine images (sum or difference of the latest image entry and the recorded file; sum or difference of two files);
  5. to subtract regular noises;
  6. to rotate, about the frame center, the obtained image by the angle selected by the operator;
  7. to draw profiles of relative image brightness (intensity) in the chosen by the operator horizontal (X) and vertical (Y) sections; in so doing a section can be in the form of both a line and a window of an adjustable width;
  8. to measure a width of relative brightness profiles at the levels of 0.1 and 0.5 from their maximum as well as the intervals corresponding to a rise (or fall) of profiles between 0.1 and 0.9 (0.9 and 0.1) levels;
  9. to measure relative image brightness in the point or zone of intersection of horizontal and vertical sections with the possibility of extending the brightness scale by a factor of 2, 5, and 10;
  10. to draw on the images the lines of equal brightness (isophoto) at the brightness level selected by the operator;
  11. to reproduce the image in grey (black-and-white), blue, and multi-colored (pseudocoloring of equal-brightness zones) palettes;
  12. to inform the user about ADC overflow; in so doing, where over lighting takes place, a red color appears on the black-and-white image and on the image in blue palette whereas a white color appears on the image in multi-colored palette (option of over lighting indication on the black-and-white image and the image in blue palette can be switched on/off at the user's wish).
